Rayborn Sentenced to Life Plus 50 Years for Murder and Kidnapping

Today, August 22nd, Judge Lee Hoffoss sentenced, Derik K Rayborn, 48, Lake Charles, to life in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole on a Second Degree Murder charge; forty (40) years in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole on a Second Degree Kidnapping charge; ten (10) years in prison at hard labor on a Aggravated Cruelty to Animals charge; and twenty (20) years in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole on a Possession of a Firearm or Carrying of a Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies charge.

The Possession of a Firearm sentence is to run concurrent to all other sentences which are to be ran consecutively. The sentences total a life sentence plus fifty (50) years.

In 2024, Rayborn brutally assaulted his girlfriend, rendering her unconscious. When she regained consciousness and attempted to escape, Rayborn pursued her, forcibly dragged her back into the residence, and continued the attack. During the assault, the victim’s son tried to intervene to protect his mother. In response, Rayborn shot and killed him. A dog inside the home, which was barking during the altercation, was also shot and killed by Rayborn.

First Assistant District Attorney Jacob Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Kadence Huber prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
