Breaux Sentenced to Life for 1988 Cold Case Rape

Today, May 2nd, Judge David Ritchie sentenced Dartanyan K. Breaux, 59, Lake Charles, to life in prison on an Aggravated Rape conviction. This sentence is without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
In 1988, Breaux broke into the victim’s home through her bedroom window. Once he entered the home, he brutally beat the victim and raped her. The rape kit that was taken from the victim in 1988 was retested in 2023 which resulted in a positive finding of seminal fluid from Breaux.
“Thanks to advancements in DNA technology, justice has finally been served in a case that has haunted a survivor for more than three decades. The successful prosecution of this cold case reinforces our unwavering commitment to seeking justice, no matter how much time has passed. We are grateful that the victim now has the closure she so rightfully deserves, and that this predator is finally being held accountable for his heinous crimes.” said District Attorney Stephen Dwight.
