Austin Mott found Guilty of Aggravated Rape

On February 13, 2017, District Judge Ron Ware found Austin Mott Jr., age 46, guilty of Aggravated Rape.

On October 5, 1999, the victim was running at the Lake Charles Civic Center and stopped to use the ladies restroom. Mott entered the restroom, hit the victim multiple times, breaking her nose. He then threw her into a bathroom stall and raped her. The victim was able to leave the restroom and drive herself to a local hospital.

In 2015, Lt. Kevin Kirkum with the Lake Charles Police Department was working cold case detail and sent the DNA collected in this case to be screened. A CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) hit returned to Mott. Mott was incarcerated at the time in Rosharon, Texas.

Sentencing is set for Friday, February 17, 2017, at 10:00 am before Judge Ron Ware. Mott faces a penalty of life in prison for the aggravated rape charge.

Detective Kevin Kirkum with Lake Charles Police Department was the lead detective.

First Assistant Cynthia Killingsworth prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
