Traffic

The Traffic Section receives all traffic citations issued by the Louisiana State Police, McNeese University Police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department. The Traffic Department also assists the public by answering their questions from the many phone calls and visits from the public.

Each of the traffic clerks has specific duties which range from receiving payments for traffic citations, assisting the assistant district attorneys in traffic court, sending out notices to people whose driver's license has been suspended for non-payment of a citation, to running a record on defendants to see if they have prior traffic citations.

The volume of traffic citations has increased substantially over the last few years. For 2004, there were 14,556 citations issued, but in 2005, it decreased to 13,964.
