WILFRED LEE EDWARDS SENTENCED TO TWENTY FIVE (25) YEARS
On January 25, 2012, Judge D. Kent Savoie sentenced Wilfred Lee Edwards to serve twenty five years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. On November 9, 2011, Edwards entered a guilty plea to Manslaughter. Assistant District Attorney David Kimball prosecuted the case. Edwards was convicted of the 2010 shooting death of Aldwin Smith.
DAVID IBURG SENTENCED TO FORTY YEARS
On January 6, 2012, Judge David Ritchie sentenced David Iburg to forty (40) years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
On September 26, 2011, Iburg entered a guilty plea to Forcible Rape. Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Guillory prosecuted the case.
District Attorney John DeRosier and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office will continue to use every resource available to keep dangerous predators off the streets of Calcasieu Parish.
ROGRICK VANDYKE SENTENCED TO LIFE
On November 4, 2011, Judge Clayton Davis sentenced Rogrick Vandyke to life in the Louisiana Department of Corrections for Second Degree Murder. Judge Davis ordered Vandyke to serve the sentence without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
On October 14, 2011, after deliberating for less than an hour, a jury found Vandyke guilty of asphyxiating Rhonda Nelson. Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Blake prosecuted the case.
ANTHONY WAYNE DENNIS, JR. SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR FIRST DEGREE ROBBERY
On October 28, 2011, Judge Michael Canaday sentenced Anthony Wayne Dennis, Jr. to 16 years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections, without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
On October 14, 2011, a jury found him guilty of First Degree Robbery. Assistant District Attorneys Tara Hawkins and Bobby Holmes prosecuted the case. Dennis was convicted of the 2009 Robbery of a Lake Charles bank.
JASON MORGAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR SECOND DEGREE MURDER
On October 21, 2011, Judge David Ritchie sentenced Jason Morgan to life in the Louisiana Department of Corrections for the shooting death of Roy Wyatt on June 7, 2010. On September 22, 2011, a jury found Morgan guilty of Second Degree Murder. Assistant District Attorney Rick Bryant prosecuted the case.
Darren Morgan, Jason Morgan’s brother, is scheduled for trial on Obstruction of Justice and Accessory after the Fact to Second Degree Murder.
JAMES LEE BURKS, III SENTENCED TO 11 LIFE SENTENCES
On October 19, 2011, Judge David Ritchie sentenced James Lee Burks, III to serve eleven (11) life sentences in the Louisiana Department of Corrections as a Habitual Offender. Assistant District Attorney David Palay prosecuted the case.
On June 17, 2011, a twelve-person jury found Burks guilty of eleven (11) charges including Assault by Drive-By Shooting, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Armed Robbery with a Firearm (3 counts), and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon (6 counts).

On September 26, 2011, David Iburg entered a guilty plea to Forcible Rape. Judge David Ritchie accepted his guilty plea and scheduled Sentencing for January 6, 2012. Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Guillory prosecuted the case.

JUSTIN DURBIN ENTERS GUILTY PLEA TO AGGRAVATED FLIGHT FROM AN OFFICER & ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF STOLEN THINGS
On September 16, 2011, Justin Durbin entered a guilty plea to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things over $1,500. Judge Michael Canaday sentenced Durbin to two (2) years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Assistant District Attorney Tara Hawkins prosecuted the case.
At the time of his arrest in July, Durbin was referred to as the “Bentley Bandit” by local media. Durbin will still be required to answer to charges in eight (8) additional jurisdictions.
NINA AND RODNEY NEWTON SENTENCED ON CHARGES RELATED TO THE SHOOTING DEATH OF ALEXUS RANKINS
On September 19, 2011, Judge Clayton Davis sentenced Nina and Rodney Newton on charges related to the shooting death of Alexus Rankins. Nina Newton was sentenced to five (5) years in Louisiana Department of Corrections for Accessory after the Fact to First Degree Murder and ten (10) years in Louisiana Department of Corrections for Obstruction of Justice. Judge Davis ordered Nina Newton’s sentences to run concurrently. Rodney Newton was sentenced to three (3) years in the Calcasieu Parish Jail for Accessory after the Fact to First Degree Murder. First Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Killingsworth prosecuted the case.
On July 20, 2011, Sean Newton, Nina and Rodney’s son, was sentenced to Life in the Louisiana Department of Corrections without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence for First Degree Murder, twenty (20) years for Obstruction of Justice, and six (6) months in the parish jail with a $500 fine for Inciting a Riot. Judge Davis ordered Sean Newton’s sentences to run concurrently.
RANDALL CHAD THOMPSON FOUND GUILTY OF AGGRAVATED SEX OFFENSE
On September 13, 2011, after a six day trial, a jury found Randall Chad Thompson guilty of an aggravated sex offense. Assistant District Attorneys Cynthia Guillory and Bobby Holmes prosecuted the case. Judge Michael Canaday scheduled Thompson’s Sentencing for October 28, 2011, at 9:00 a.m.
